The hike.
Ammonite falls is a bit of a hidden gem in the Nanaimo area but those who are familiar it is a local favourite for good reason.
Named for the fossils found rock, uncovered from the falls Ammonite falls is located just off jingle pot rd just on the outskirts of Nanaimo and it close to town. It’s a short hike in to the falls at ruffly one hour each way with lots of scenery to take in aside from the waterfall at the end. The trail is well marked, fairly flat and groomed, it starts winding down hill as you near the top of the falls. Once at the falls you can find you way to the bottom by a steep trail down (about 45°) with a rope the full length down for assists to get down and up. In the wet months the falls are spectacular and in the dry months the tree cover provides a cool walk in the park.
Ammonite falls is a great way to spend a few hours of the day or even longer if looking for good photo opportunities and will bring you back again and again to take it all in.
